Earth4Energy Review: For most people, building an entire solar panel system sounds beyond difficult. A logical person can break this down to what it really is- combining construction with science and throwing in more tax forms. What part of this was supposed to be appealing again? How about the fact that Earth4Energy first explains to you, the consumer, and how solar energy really works.

Understanding the science behind the work gave me a great insight to how I was going to conquest this job. There’s the science covered, now on to the construction. New features like the “Solar Calculator” help with the math ends of the project, allowing you to efficiently size up your panels to your roof. Forget having to search for the new tax forms, E4E has every paper and form you will need to file for your taxes and rebates.

What’s included: In this guide to harvesting solar energy, Earth4Energy offers you 3 steps to electrical freedom. Step 1 teaches about solar power and how it works. Step 2 gives you instructions on how to piece all of your materials together. This book has detailed prints and colored pictures to walk you through the building and setting phases of construction. Step 3 is where the majority of help is given. Here they have the “Solar Calculator”, a help for installing your newly built panels, tax and rebate forms and a very important guild to wiring your panels directly into your house. (Note that the wiring plans save you big money on hiring and electrician! The task truly is minimal, and yes, electricians are one of the highest paid residential trades.)

One of the packages available now has video instructions for assembling the solar panels. You can literally watch the video and make sure everything is done correctly, one step at a time. The video was not available until recently, so honestly I’ve never personally watched it, but it could make some of the instructions much simpler than the instructional text I was given.

My experience: The benefits of Earth4Engry outweighed the weekend I sacrificed to nearly complete the project. All of the materials can be purchased at most home improvement stores. Assembling the panels is easy, so long as you can handle some minor power tools. Squaring the frame can be an issue if you have never tried to install a door or window before. A helpful construction tip is to measure diagonally across the corners, any right angled frame (squares and rectangles) will be even both ways. After squaring up, the project should fall into place.

I didn’t get to mount the panels until the following weekend, being an active adult with work and other errands takes up a good part of my Sunday through Friday. With the help of a friend who has any amount of construction back round at all, the process of turning your electric dial backwards is as stated- 1,2,3.

Here is what went into the job:

• Earth4Energy Guide
• A helpful friend to lend a hand
• A couple weekends of our time
• $700-1000 for materials. (This could be more if you need tools, I did not.)
• Some time to run the wiring (Neither my friend or I have ever worked in the electric field before so we took our time. Much suggested that the inexperienced attempting this DO THE SAME! Safety first)

Approx Cost of Materials: Be prepared to spend around $100-120 per panel. A row of 5-8 of these panels will likely be enough for an average sized house. Not that much considering that the meters run backwards in good weather and on overcast, cloudy days it still will slow your dial substantially.

NOTE: You buy materials once! You pay the electric bill EVERY MONTH. This is a top investment because it pays you! Freeing up your budget from outrageous electric bills and going green are the two points I can’t preach enough here.

Please be open minded if my estimations are slightly on the low side, I’ve had an open account with my local home improvement store for nearly 10 years now and I do get discounted when possible.

How Much Can You Save With Solar?

This all depends on a few factors:

1. How big of a space does your new E4E setup cover?
2. How much electric you already use in your house per month.
3. How much would professional installation have cost?
4. How well will you maintain your system?

Covering an entire roof will pay you back on your investment faster than only installing 2 or 3 smaller panels or grids, obviously. Here is a key to seeking a return with solar, no matter what you end up creating for your home – YOU WILL SAVE EVERY MONTH! If you purchased the Earth4Energy guide, you probably spent around $600-1000 on your total investment.

Some have spent more on similar DIY projects and if you have a bigger budget, this is one of the top investments for modern homes. Energy bills will drop drastically for most homes, so within a years’ time the panels will have either paid themselves off or should be close. Some lucky folks will see the meter running counter clockwise if the panels convert enough of the sun’s rays into energy efficient to the point of powering all sections of the home.

Return Policy: If after purchasing Earth4Energy you are not completely satisfied with the quality and depth of the guide you can easily return the guide. You can actually return the guide regardless of your satisfaction. Personally I felt that the owners of Earth4Energy deserved my $50 after I had set up fully functional solar panels on my roof.
