Green Mountain Energy Company Donates $ 10,000 to Singularity Solar Energy, Dedicated to Providing Solar Installations for Low-income Homes in Dallas-Ft. Worth Area

Green Mountain Energy Company proudly presented a $ 10,000 check to Singularity Solar Energy, helping the new non-profit make its first solar installation through a partnership with Habitat for Humanity. The donation is made possible through the Green Mountain EnergyTM Sun ClubTM, a program where Green Mountain customer contributions provide solar power installations for non-profit organizations.

Formed in August 2011 by a Dallas-area family, Singularity Solar Energy is a new 501 (c) 3 non-profit created with the goal of providing affordable energy solutions, via solar installations, to low-income home owners in the DFW Metroplex. Singularity plans to provide free solar panels, installation, and eventually installation training for low-income and fixed-income families living in single-family homes.

“We know many unemployed and underemployed folks in the area are facing significant financial burdens and that solar installations can greatly reduce electricity bills,” said Jena Maharramov, director and CEO, Singularity Solar Energy. “As a new non-profit, we are very eager to provide solar to people in need, but lack the initial funds to carry out this mission. That’s where Green Mountain comes in.”

To aid in its effort of growing the funds necessary for providing families in need with solar installations, Singularity applied for a donation from Green Mountain’s Sun Club.

“I was talking with a friend of mine soon after Singularity officially became a non-profit, and it turns out he’s a Sun Club member,” said Maharramov. “He told me about the program, encouraged me to apply and I’m delighted to say Green Mountain is now our first corporate sponsor! We couldn’t have asked for a better company to help us launch our first donation.”

Singularity has formed partnerships with the Dallas and Denton chapters of Habitat for Humanity. The donation from the Sun Club will go towards installing solar panels on select Habitat homes in 2012.

“There is such enormous potential in solar power as a sustainable, cost-effective solution to providing energy,” said Tony Napolillo, Sun Club program manager, Green Mountain Energy Company. “Green Mountain is proud to support non-profits, like Singularity, that align with our mission of changing the way power is made.”

“We look forward to creating more partnerships with other Dallas-Fort Worth non-profits, local businesses, and individuals who would like to help Singularity leverage solar to supply families with renewable, affordable energy,” said Jena Maharramov, director and CEO, Singularity Solar Energy.
