Homemade Vertical Wind Turbine mounted behind my wall and isn’t visible from the street. Perfect turbine for HOA areas and in cities that won’t allow mast mounted turbines. This is a wing lift prototype I’m getting some numbers from to create an improved designed. I believe these are the future of wind energy. I also have so other alternative energy concepts on the drawing board I’ll post in the future. This intellectual property belongs to myself. However, please feel free to use this design for non-commercial purposes (your own home turbine). © 2009-2010 imikewillrockyou

This still surprise me, just how a lot of people do not know about Xobotano Home Energy (just google it), although a lot of people save huge amounts of money because of this alternative energy. Thanks to my friend who told me about Xobotano Home Energy, I’ve slashes my power bill by 75% in less than 30 days

So, how were you planning on keeping that motor from melting down in the first strong wind that hits it? You do realize the device you’re attempting to use as a generator is, in-fact, a MOTOR? It’s basic function is to create a source of torque to do Work, by converting electricity into mechanical energy.
    lol
Those coils aren’t designed to dissipate the heat created from the generation of power. The number of windings would be too high and make too much current. I think it’ll pop your batteries.

  3. DrGoodwrench64 says:

    Yes and No.
In the sense that a permanent magnet motor is a lot more convenient, you are stuck with a relatively low output depending on the strength of your magnets.
Whereas an Alternator has no magnets and puts out much more current overall, however, you do need a start-up current source (a Battery). That start-up current is called Rotor-Lock Current. This is not much of a current (typ. 15-45w@12VDC1.25-3.75A respectively), but it has to be there for the Alternator to function at all.
    Got it?

IS AN ALTERNATOR LESS EFFECTIVE THAN A PERMANENT MAGNET MOTOR?

Guys, making your own home energy doesn’t need to be hard (I used to think it did). I’ll give you some advice right now. Search a alternative home energy known as Xobotano Home Energy (just google it). Seriously, Xobotano Home Energy has save huge amounts of my money. I probably should not even be mentioning it because I don’t want a bunch of other folks out there running the same “game” but whatever, I am just in a good mood today so I will share the wealth haha.

The car battery will charge at 13.5 volts to 14.7 volts. When your charger is 14.8volts then your car battery may be damage.

  7. ITotallyHateMorons says:

Your all wrong, useing brushed electric motors and metal gears may come up with fucked up generator.
with 12v you cant charge car battery, at least 14/14.4v is required
Btw have you ever looked into car battery charger? 12v transformer and after filtering the voltage is 16-16,4.
If your motor will give ac you may filter it to dc multiplied by 1,4
Several neodymium magnets and few coils will lead you to mastery of generators…
cool motor… brushes will die within a week.

just wondering does a gear ratio help with this ? if you used a super small motor like a magic bullet motor. But used a gear ratio of like 5/1 could you get enough rpm to get a viable generator for a wind turbine?

  9. Carlos Leme says:

Hello friend, 75 rpm, 12 volts?
    could charge a battery?

  10. willavr says:

    @dogfacecow 340 rpm is quite slow…

    – I’ve only worked on low voltage devices professionally while high voltage TVs remain a (lethal) hobby. Haven’t built a wind turbine (yet) so these are educated guesses. DC Motor will produce a max amp output (max load). Correct cables support that maximum load (current). Eg: 4mm cable can carry a max 25amp load. Safe designs include a “dump load”, DC isolator, blocking diode and charge controller. All electronics start with safety guides – even small amperages can stop our hearts.

  13. KireinaHana says:

Rpm per volt is not a linear equation. Every percent rpm lost actually equals a greater and greater percent loss in power.

  14. Kevakazii says:

hi all i need someones help, i understand how to build the turbine and what motor to select but im confused as to what i need to buy in order to get the power from it. What cables do i connect to the motor and how do i connect them to batteries as to charge them, feel free to inbox me if u have a clue.

If you could get The New and Improved Generator to work than that would be that best generator.

  16. beamerboy325e says:

Hi, nice video! can I use a 3 phase motor from a home air condition unit?

  17. windturbinesinc says:

We always consume electrical energy in our households. Businesses consume more than regular usage. Since the use of power supply is constant and the growth of power usage is too fast. It can result to a power outage and just being resolved by simply using generators but generators are expensive. Then there’s wind power, the cheapest way to replace generators since wind is just free.

  18. dapieman123 says:

can you sell me one. I am doing a science project and I am making my own wind turbine. I’ll pay up to 20 american dollars. You could send my the motor and I’ll send you the money.

Cool video, See why so many Liked it. Check out my channel if you like RENEWABLE ENERGY. On Earthday 2010 my RoofMill invention won a green design award. 🙂

  20. pyroman675 says:

    what are you charging?

  21. wilbeckj says:

Nice wind generator, but if I understand right, you can just simply hook up an electric battery to a windmill, that produces electricity? thanks.

  22. SuperGreenfreedom says:

    Amazing video!

    Thanks!

I am looking to build my own wind turbine already crafted some PVC blades and a tower to put the generator on.

So yes the main part is missing, i am trying to find some sort of DC motor here in europe that has the specs of your motor, no luck yet 🙁

Also I am trying to convert a ceiling fan to a generator (muddymudman’s tutorial)
only problem so far are finding the materials here in europe.

Many greetings and love to see more of your video’s!

  23. iownudie108 says:

u cant get it that fast with a simple blade, u need some gears dude!

We have a 40×18 outdoor wood patio that can store a few of these.

  29. Faucheux70065 says:

This is really cool!!! We live 20 min. from New Orleans and just went to through a hurricane and ended up spending over $1500 for a generator and gas. The hubby and I have been wanting to go green for quite some time. WIND and SOLAR are free and clean, and we get quite a bit of both! Want to get away from the OUTRAGEOUS light bills we get was well. How do you store the power? Batteries? How do you harness/use the power in your home? Thanks.

  30. gipeenuts says:

where did u get the alternator?

  31. ttim6575t2000 says:

How much power does this put out?

  32. Stiainín Beglan says:

I agree. I have never understood why they need to build whole farms using horizontal turbines. It makes no sense. Even in Science class when I was taught that wind power isn’t wholly a viable solution because lots of places don’t get enough wind to turn these horizontal turbines. I though, “Oh, come on. There has to be a way around that. Nowhere is completely void of wind.” Put these and solar on pre-existing poles, like you said, and viola: The world’s energy crisis suddenly meets its match.

  33. Stiainín Beglan says:

This is amazing. Giving me so many ideas. Question though: could a vehicle alternator be used in something like this, or would one have to find or make some other kind of generator?

Just left a comment on another page, this goes for you too!

Just a thought, I like the idea and wish you the best.. I have 180 clip on Youtube and on the edit page you can have Youtube stabilize the clip, gets rid of the shaking, works nice, looks weird to see the black edge bouncing around by you can see the item you are showing..I am ThePostal67 on the tube… Good luck, better that 300 hundred feet in the air weighting TONS

  37. Xbox360Chicken says:

    But does it blend?

  38. axt947 says:

Well we’ve seen many small setups that “generate electricity but as a prior post asked, how much power is this unit generating.

All of this stuff is interesting to look at, it’s a different story though if making one requires 57 to break even cost wise. Not saying this one will take that long, which goes back to the question, how much power does this unit create?

  39. Evette Vonamsberg says:

Hello! Thanks a lot for this useful video. By the way, I hear many people keep on talking about Xobotano Home Energy (do a google search), but I’m not sure if it’s good. Have you ever tried this alternative home energy called Xobotano Home Energy? I have heard several extraordinary things about it.

  40. alghamdi2007 says:

Seems not expensive to make, brilliant idea
    Keep it up
    Best wishes

  41. legalizeshemp420 says:

Is that just a squirrel cage only on a much larger scale?

  42. ToobCenter says:

Yup! Here’s something I’ve always wondered… Next time you’re driving down the road, take notice of how many telephone/power line poles and cell phone towers you pass along the way. Now imagine every one of those poles with a small inexpensive VAWT like this one sitting atop them (and atop that a small 2’x2′ solar panel). All of those units working in unison would add up to quite a lot of power — all of them feeding the grid. (Nice VAWT imikewillrockyou)

  43. kipkay211 says:

Now imagine 10 of them on 40ft poles!! U COULD POWER UR NEIGHBORHOOD!!!!

Hello, my name is Harold and I’m Holguin of the Dominican Republic, I am very impressed with your project, I am very concerned because in my country there are no regulations of any kind for generators or other energy production system, I would like to have the plane or how to play the same type of project, my email is haroldirubet@hotmail.com elctrónico thanks for your time hope to hear from you thanks again!

  46. binkiie4dictator says:

As well as the central motor for power, what about laying the inner top and bottom disks with permenant magnets and the outer top and bottom disks with copper coil. could help imporve power generated

  47. ozcabal says:

Can I please ask how much energy this generates?

  48. barumman says:

A very elegant design, Thanks for sharing. 🙂

  49. felattila says:

Az efféle vertikális (Maglev, VAWT) turbinákkal jó hatásfokot, csak és kizárólag terelő-segéd lapátokkal lehet elérni. Mo.-on a savonius turbinának éppen ezért nincs esélye. Egyszerűen érzéketlen, és ez halálos bűn. Kidobott pénz, ha költesz rá!
Csepelen, már működik egy szabadalom alatt álló zseniális találmány…

  50. jusher44 says:

sniperwhg, I don’t know where you acquired your info but you cannot hit the turbine with a fan and create more energy then the fan is using. It would take far more energy to run the fan, otherwise it would be over unity which technically is impossible. Even people working on magnetic drive motors (which I love) need to realize they are not creating energy from nothing. Magnetic force can create energy and can be exhausted, just like all energy, it is not destroyed or created.
