It may be cheaper to buy a kit than individual components.First consider this,if your system cost is $ 10000 and you save $ 50/month,if you have no weather damage or system breakdowns, and your batteries last for ever(NOT) it will take 16yrs 9mths to even break even. You cannot run a Dryer-hair or clothes, cook stove or any high amp appliance. you will have gas heat for water and house. Dont believe all they tell you, this is not a cost effective way to go unless you plan on several thousand square feet, and can sell surplus to the local utility.Sorry to be a sad sack but why do you think they are not pushing this as hard as possible? The technology is just not there right now.

i agree with the previous post. people down the street have a wind turbine. when you consider the cost of the unit and how long it will take to break even, it’s totally ridiculous. it’s a very expensive experiment.

    Hello Maria,

I asked the same question a few days ago and got a lot of helpfull answers.
In the end I decided (against the advice of most of the people) to buy an E-Book about this subject.

    I bought it from http://www.selfmade-solarpanels.com .
I am not an adverstiser and I have nothing todo with that site, but I am very happy. I didnt started to build yet, but the videos and manuals look really proper and easy to follow. I don´t know if it is allowed to send a copy to someone else, maybe I can just write them a mail and ask them, if they agree i cann send you a copy of the videos and the pdf files.

    Hope i could help you
    Maria

There is free information here: http://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-Sola…

Be especially wary of sites that suggest you make your own panels. Do not pay anyone for one of these e-books. I have not seen a single one that is not a borderline scam. They make express and implied claims that are outright inaccurate. It’s unreasonable to expect to power a house with a solar panel built for just a few hundred dollars. In fact, it’s unreasonable to expect to save any money at all with a homemade panel. Since it’s illegal to connect a homemade panel to your house wiring in most places, you would end up with a system that needs a battery, and that costs twice as much as the cost-effective way that most people install solar panels. If you wanted to see one of these e-books, I’m sure a torrent search engine would find one posted for free – just do a search on “solar panel”.
