Whoa I guess you can but why use unistrut when there are so many solar
racking manufacturers? grounding for the frames?

It has been years since your installation. Please let us know if your roof
has leaked and how your panels are performing. Thanks!

Your panels don’t have enough ventilation underneath and I’ll bet you money
your roof will leak within 5 years.

man home owners hire a solar installer to help you a little, I bet for not
much more money. for sure in the long run on this install. I like seeing
all these ideas of course, let me know how many years it will hold water.

Arieleno is right. This install is incorrect and voids your roof warranty
when water begins to leak

How do you screw the channels onto the roof?

@BigBearHuskyMusher You can get them at Home Depot but you will need to
paint them because they will rust. They are zinc and not the hot dipped
galvanized. You can get the galvanized ones at any commerical electricl
supply and they will not rust…………..

Fubar, That is perfect, way cheaper and way stronger than those rack
systems with heavy priceing , I made my own with aluminum unistruts and all
stainless steel nuts and bolts. Unistrut is the way to go. GOOD JOB….

Awesome setup! Another way to show it gets even easier and less expensive
for the average joe to setup his own solar on the roof!!

@123kkambiz If this comment is for me, you might want to watch the video
again. I used hot dipped galv unistrut on this project with spacers that
keep the strut off of the roof……

Hey Fubar, I watched this video when you first put it out 2 years ago and
I’m just getting around to installing my first solar panel and I love the
idea of using unistrut since it makes installation easy, but also because
it gets the panels off the roof which helps with air flow and will make
them run cooler and make them more efficient. Thanks for the video and all
the tips you show!

The spacer is only the roofing compound? Or did you use a piece of rubber
as well?
