Next Step Living Launches Energy Independence Days Celebration With Community Solar

Next Step Living Launches Energy Independence Days Celebration With Community Solar

Boston, MA (PRWEB) June 19, 2014

Next Step Living, New England’s leading provider of home energy solutions, today kicked off the summer and its debut of community solar with an Energy Independence Days Celebration, an opportunity to purchase community solar with a special promotional discount.

“We want people eager to support renewable energy to know that community solar is a new way for them to ‘go solar,’” said Next Step Living COO Brian Greenfield.

“Community solar is for everyone. Apartment renters. Condo owners. Homeowners with roofs not suited for a rooftop solar system. Everyone. There’s no roof required,” said Next Step Living COO Brian Greenfield. “That means more people than ever can lower their dependence on fossil fuels.”

To celebrate the availability of community solar, Next Step Living is offering one eligible entrant* $ 2,000 off an agreement to purchase community solar, an estimated 10 percent of the cost of it for the average home. Ten other qualifying ratepayers will have an opportunity to win a $ 100 gift card for use on Amazon.com. To enter to be a randomly selected Energy Independence Days winner, simply complete this entry form or mail a post card to the address provided in the contest rules.

Happy Energy Independence

Community solar, sometimes referred to as shared solar, is an alternative to residential rooftop solar for the estimated 80 percent of Massachusetts ratepayers who want solar power but can’t install a rooftop system. (Please see accompanying infographic.) Instead, a utility customer buys part of a remotely situated solar array, or garden, and then uses the power produced to offset some – or all – of his electric bill.

“For homeowners who can’t have on-site systems, community solar is as good as rooftop, because a community solar owner gets the same electricity, green attributes and financial incentives. They get the same benefits of solar without having it on their property,” said Patrick Cloney, the founding CEO of the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center who created the Solarize Mass program.

Community Solar: Newest Addition to Whole-Home Approach to Energy Efficiency.

In addition to community and rooftop solar, Next Step Living offers energy-efficiency services ranging from home energy evaluations and weatherization to the latest in heating and cooling solutions. It has served almost 75,000 households and helped homeowners prevent the annual emission of more than 65,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide. This is equivalent to taking more than 14,000 cars off the road.

Earlier this spring, the company ranked first as the fastest-growing private company in Massachusetts by the Boston Business Journal and was named to the TiE Silicon Valley’s prestigious TiE50 “2014 Global Hot Technology Start-up Watch List.” Additionally, company founder and CEO Geoff Chapin this month was named EY Entrepreneur Of The Year 2014TM in New England.

An eligible entrant is a current resident of Massachusetts and a current customer of WMECo in the Western/Central Massachusetts (WCMA) load zone; of National Grid in Southeastern Massachusetts (SEMA); or National Grid or NSTAR in Northeastern Massachusetts (NEMA).
