Very good question, you need to install a transfer switch panel that would
automatically switch between available resources (Genset, Battery bank) in
the event of a power outage like “SAMLEX STS-30 30 AMP AUTOMATIC TRANSFER
SWITCH”, search it on the net thanks again. Godspeed, El Raz

@BurkeLCH Please be more specific? Are you planing to buy panels or just
installing? You could try “freesunpower” hope this would help. Godspeed,

The wire gauge (8) is perfect! And the MPPT function of the Outback would
do the rest for you! Thanks for visiting. Please feel free to ask! Be Well,

do you know how to convert my 18 roof solar panels to run off generator or
battery backup in case of power outages or disaster?

They called “Struts”, I did look at them last year. For a straight roof
with no sagging in between the rafters they would work fantastic, however
the cost (plus the extra weight of the additional hardware on the roof)
would have been about $400.00 versus about $85.00 my setup cost and no
extra weight on the roof, thanks for your comment. Be Well, Godspeed

I’m entertaining the idea of installing solar panels. Do you have a good
online reference I could find more information?

Great video….just thought I’d drop you a note about the anchors. First,
As you know, that’s ALOT of holes to be making in your roof (which equate
to a lot of potential expensive leaks). Second, that’s way too much work
bending and drilling Now for the good news: Go to home depot or lowes and
pick up some of that 10′ channel bar; 2 laid parallel on your roof with
only 4 screws dipped in tar with nice strong washers should do just fine.
They also sell the spring loaded/bolt channel feet.

I have 6 12 volt 100 watt solar panels,I have an issue with the wire from
the panels to where I want to put a controller .the wire i currently have
is 8 awg about 75 feet .do you think it would be an issue to tei the panels
in series to up the voltage and still use the out back to charge my battery
bank at 12 volts with the 75 feet of wire between the panels and controller
    ?

Hi Heath: Do you have the FX60 or FX80? The 60 can handle 60 Amps and 145
DC coming in the 80 can handle up to 80 amps. The Outback controllers use
voltage to generate AMPS through the built in toroid coil, I would go with
two sets of 3 panels in parallel = 12 V and 100 W and connect the two sets
in series which would be 48 Volts (you would get about 84 Volts in reality)
    and up to 45 Amps.
