Why is it that the rest of Europe takes this seriously and the UK are in
cuckoo land with our heads in the sand? Could be the man in charge.

Forget about solar energy. No guaranteed base load & not enough
semiconducting materials to satisfy total demand.
Truth is : we have already nudged the tipping point. Massive release of
methane hydrates from the SAS (Siberian Arctic Shelf) will finish mankind &
most other species.
The 6th major extinction has already started & you are in a starring role !
Politicians won’t admit it because they fear the consequences of societal
breakdown.

Some very interesting ideas here. But I really want to know why
productivity has anything to do with thermodynamics. His connections were
way too handwavey for me.

Look folks, he can not come out and say it..THE END OF WORK. He has to show
us the evolution of why and how we can actually get to the point of the end
of the paid to live paradigm. The monetary system will become history. He
can’t jsut blurt that out like that because it will scare folks away. We
are no longer ncessary for production we ill become obsolete like the
tractor replaced the horse

I really think that Rifkin does bring the vision that is politically
necessary to change our mind set off fossil fuel. However, I am still not
convinced that we can expected to thrive with only renewable energy. It
seems to me just not compatible with our expectations as a consumerist
society. Renewable are order of magnitude less prominent than Oil, gas and
now coal. Therefore, I’m still skeptical about this “solar future”.
How can we have a near zero marginal cost society when there is a scarcity
of energy if we naively assume that fossil fuel are out of the picture?

Why does Geo-Thermal Energy NOT discussed.. Geo-Thermal If harnessed at
only few places can outrun, Coal fired Power Plants & Nuclear Power Plants
Combined.. Solar Energy in this sense will act like ‘Helper’ & surplus
which is needed any way.

Amazing talk by Jeremy Riftkin, on how solar energy is going to change the
energy industry!

This is great, this way we can keep growing the population and our
consumption patterns. gobbling up minerals and remaining edible plant and
animal matter. Do we even have the copper, silicon, plastics or capital to
carry out this plan? Distributed systems yes, but for a relatively small
number of people, living close to the coasts but not too close.

Try telling anyone about this stuff and they think your crazy. Nobody wants
to hear it, they’ll laugh at you, they’re more interested in football and
Beyonce’. The stupid people have won. Humanity is doomed, no question
about it.

How much money will Germany be spending, to set up, a nation wide grid of
Solar Power and will they be the first, to go from fossil fuel to a solar
powered economy? Great presentation!
