The thing that pisses me off about the internet is the complete and utter
lack of faith that something new could actually work.
You know what else was hard to achieve?
Going to the fucking moon.

Interesting. I think it is a little ahead of its time. It would be feasible
for private use. Driveways & parking lots.

well done. would love to see this in real life and see how well it works.

I’m surprised that Google hasn’t invested in this. Let alone the
government.

Don’t be fooled. I’ve done the math and these panels are completely
unworkable. I’m guessing each unit will cost around $500 at least if the
creator is planning on following through with the features he’s promised.
Assuming each unit has 9.3 sq ft out of 13.4 sq ft covered in PV cells, and
assuming they operate at 18.5% efficiency as advertised, these units would
take TWENTY SIX YEARS to pay for themselves. In other words, if the units
do not use any of the features advertised in any way and do not connect to
their wireless network, the average life of each unit has to be greater
than twenty six years to actually see them paying for themselves. To see
them generate profit would be a miracle.
Which is why, the creator of the campaign is planning to take the money
from the startup campaign and disappear. It’s easier, it’s faster, and it’s
not impossible like this concept is.

So how is making solar panels that you drive on more cost effective than
making solar panels that you don’t drive on and cheap roads that you drive
on?

I really like this idea. My concerns are traction, which you have
addressed….but also the textured surface causing faster tire wear, and
also possible increases in road noise. Have these been tested?

You see this is why we haven’t been to the edge of the universe yet.
Good ideas like this are constantly being shoved down by the idiots who
think they’re being smart with comments (I know what’s coming, and I’m
aware that I’m saying smart stuff in a comment). I know you all think
you’re better than everyone else, but please give this a shot.
If you think it’s stupid, I highly recommend you see this:

What problem is this idea suppose to solve? I don’t see it. There is
plenty of available land for solar farms. Until you can come up with a
really great answer to this question this idea is not viable.

Question: Would dirt and junk covering the solar panels significantly
impact its efficiency?

Still waiting for a response. Bit of a con job. I made the “leap of
faith” blurbed on about in this video with my contribution. They say “our
idea works, will you help” , offering unique perks. That is not working

Every wonder why America is no longer a leader in Science? Just read the
crazy toll comments saying this isn’t possible. Like the Luddites of
centuries past that planes are too heavy to fly, that electric lights can’t
replace whale blubber for reading – I guess it has always been thus. And
now the Danes are moving forward and have installed the world’s first solar
powered bike trail. Here’s the Washington Post link to the story –
http://www.washingtonpost.com/posttv/world/europe/worlds-first-solar-paneled-bike-path-opens/2014/11/13/43d7db70-6b42-11e4-bafd-6598192a448d_video.html
but it is all over the internet. Get with it folks. The future can be
brighter! Pull your head out of where the sun don’t shine and build solar
roads where it do!

It is amazing how many scientists, mathematicians, PHD candidates,
engineers and financiers came out to comment how they KNOW this invention
will fail… Of course they must all be well educated, have PERSONALLY gone
over the technical schematics, have done their own market analysis, and OF
COURSE got a team of engineers and scientists together to see this isn’t
feasible… Right?
/Sarcasm off
All of you know it all’s out there.. if the bunch of you are as smart as
you think you are you’d be coming up with something better….. Leave it is
to barely educated public to believe they have the authority and experience
to discredit this project.

Ola Nordmann says:
January 27, 2015 at 10:03 pm (UTC 0)
This will never happen. Building roads out of glass is stupid, LED lights
will not be visible in the day, there is a reason roads are not build out
of tiles, there is no way that they will be able the heat the roads and
melt the snow in a cost efficient way and building all that cable shit
under the road is EXTREMELY expensive. Good job giving these idiots 2.2
million dollars.

The big problem with this is that it would cost 56 trillion dolar to remake
all the roads, in the US only. Do you know how much money there is in total
in the whole world? 1 Trillion. So we cant afford it, well not in one go,
if we are going to do this its gonna be a slow process, but at least its
more worth it than most of the thing we waste our money on, im looking at
you military.

It’s a great idea, but could never be done on a large scale. Paving just
the interstates with something like this would cost upwards into the
quadrillions of dollars, money that doesn’t exist.
