UK Industry – Department for Transport Statistics Report Reveals Bio diesel Sales Up As Cheaper Fuel & Energy Prices Years Away Say Ofgem

A Government report reveals a switch to Bio-diesel in a bid to curb rising fuel & energy costs as Ofgem predicts higher prices are here to stay. Bio-diesel sales for cars and heavy goods vehicles have increased in a response to beat rising fuel prices. UK businesses have been focusing on solar energy, bio-diesel and the Green Deal Plan to save money – the use of bio-fuels and Biomass organic based products can help to reduce costs for the motorist and industry alike, against a backdrop of escalating fuel and energy costs forecast for the next several years according to Ofgem.
UK industry and homeowners alike are looking to cut costs, whether it is commuting to work, or for saving on energy bills at home. According to the Department for Transport (DFT) official Bio fuel statistics: Year 5 (15 April 2012 to 14 April 2013), report 1,states that 6.3 billion litres of renewable transport fuel have been supplied in the 51 months since the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (RTFO) began. This is one of the Government’s main policies for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from road transport in the UK. The report concludes that 11% of renewable fuel was sourced from UK feed stocks, although the largest proportion of renewable fuel was derived from non-European Community corn (66 million litres, a total of 55%). Data from the fuel price monitor “Experian” a leading source of information and analysis on petrol and retail forecourts, shows that diesel and unleaded fuel prices have been higher in the past year.
Transportation is a major factor in any economy and Britain’s haulage companies that deliver goods throughout the UK are finding it difficult to keep transportation costs down in the face of high diesel prices at the pump. As for the UK motorist, a similar picture is emerging with petrol and diesel prices at record levels the UK Government has delayed tax increases on fuel duty, however market forces drive the cost of fuel to ever increasing levels. Many members of the public are unaware of the existence of Biodiesel as a fuel for the car, and in fact as a vegetable oil derivative it can be manufactured even on a DIY basis. There are now an increasing number of outlets and forecourts selling bio-diesel.
UK household gas and electricity prices are still rising; Ofgem’s latest report and study predicts that the average duel fuel bill in the UK will be £1,420 a year, which reflects an increase of 18% since 2009. The outlook is for escalating prices in the years to come due to closure of power stations and dwindling North Sea reserves of oil and gas, combined with increased fossil fuel costs from imports. Green campaigners are calling for a more diversified lower-cost solution than the dependence on fossil fuel derivatives. A recent survey stated that the number of cars on Britain’s roads is at the lowest level for over 20 years, highlighting reduced motoring mileage due to high fuel prices.
With each summer there is an increase in interest and investment in solar energy and with a Combined Heat and Power system installed small and large companies can benefit from lower energy costs all year round. In addition the Green Deal plan, which provides energy efficiency, and insulation measures for homes and business alike, will prove of more interest as gas and electricity prices continue to increase. The scheme provides property-based loans for no up-front capital for “A” rated Double Glazing, loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, biomass wood fuel stoves, fireplaces and stand-alone boilers, replacement gas central heating boilers and also the installation of renewable energy equipment.
By using green environmentally friendly sources of fuel for heating it is common that an increase in the energy performance ratings for commercial premises and domestic homes is evident for those who have been issued with an energy certificate. Investment in new technologies for energy saving home heating and solar powered products, making a home or business more energy efficient is easy and is a cheaper option than thought possible with Renewable Energy.
