In the Alcator fusion experiment at MIT, a magnetic field of 50.0 T is produced. The magnetic energy density is 9.95×10^8 J/m^3. What is the magnitude of the electric field that would have the same energy density?

The energy is an electric field E
U = (1/2)(E)²(ε)
where ε is the permittivity of free space which is 8.85 x 10^-12 Farad/meter
9.95 x 10^8 joules per meter³ = (1/2)(E^2) ( 8.85 x 10^-12) joules per meter³
E^2 = 2(9.95 x 10^8)/(8.85 x 10^-12) = 2.25 x 10^ 20 Volts² per meter²
E = 1.50 x 10 ^10 Volts per meter
