Question by steph: power supply problem?
i was on my comptuer yesterday, and the power just cut out….i tried to turn it back on and my fans would start for about 2 seconds, then turn off. i tried this about 10 times with the same result, then it just stoped working all together, i turned the toggle switch in the back of my power supply on and off then then it stared running for a couple seconds then cut out again.

Just boot up into the Bios. Let it sit there, and see if you have problems. This helps you eliminate any hard drive or OS problem.
if does still turn off, it probably is your Power Supply.

most likely is the power supply you can buy them cheap on http://www.newegg.com make sure you check how many watts your power supply is and don’t buy less watts that what you have now is really easy tho change all you need is a screwdriver and make sure you check in the one you have right now what type of power supply is ( atx, mini atx, btx etc.) good luck .

Did the power cut out for your entire home or just for your PC? If the former, were you plugged into a surge protector? If not, it’s likely your damaged your powersupply. Can you open the computer? Usually there is an LED on the motherboard that should be a steady brightness indicating consistent power. Honestly, though, on for a few seconds and off again sounds like a motherboard short. You’ll probably need a new one. You don’t have it in a cabinet do you? Most PCs nowadays need good airflow. Stifle them, and sometimes the capacitors will overheat and pop.
