Is it possible to convert light energy to magnetic energy?

Question by : Is it possible to convert light energy to magnetic energy?
Since, from what i understand, light, electricity and magnetism are different manifestations of the same thing, so can light energy be converted to magnetic energy? Without first converting it to electricity. Or is this considered the same as asking to convert ice to steam without converting it to water?
Thanks, just curious.

Electricity and magnetism are more closely related than either is to light. One is a direct consequence of the other (and vice versa) between E and M, while converting light to electricity is a complicated process requiring special materials that still make it cost prohibitive for widespread home application. Magnetism appears even more removed from light energy than is electricity.
I would imagine that someday technology may find a way to taunt us with magnets from light, if a useful application can be found for the process.

It is hard to compare solar power and windpower with magnetic power!

You are light years away from the present. Perhaps one day on earth, our scientists and physicists could figure out how to capture the energy produced by the ever lasting Northern Aurora and apply such future technology to convert magnetism energy and array of lights into power currents that transform into electric power for domestic consumption. As such, the closest at the moment, is the magnetic generator that can be built and is still in the process of getting a viable pattern to market.
